On this day, I learned a whole bunch of French words from playing the french translation of Final Fantasy VI:
sable = sand
soin = cure
tuyau = tip (colloquially. pipe in formal usage)

I learned that George of the Jungle is still a hilarious movie, even if it does have two instances of cussing! (ass and ass!)

I learned that I ordered a copy of the Tales of Beedle the Bard, (’cause I had forgotten) and that the royalties from the sale go to help European children in institution-care.

On this day, I learned that youtube has copyright infringement audio detection software that can tell when you use ILLEGAL MP3Z in your videos. Le sigh. But they also have a handy song replacement tool, which has a lame selection, but it’s a nice gesture, no?

I also learned that Dido was a Princess of Tyre and went on to help found Carthage (which I already knew), and that the singer in fact takes her name from this lovely lady.

I learned that alzheimers deforms your brain, and that’s how it is fatal.

On this day, I learned that Darwine will play music for me, but will not export html playlists from winamp5 to a webbrowser. I would have learned how to set a default web browser in darwine, but it was faster to have my friend export it for me and upload it back!

I also learned about two girls, Doris and Poppy, who went on a grand adventure. It’s a long read, and I’m only halfway through it, but already I want to go on a similar adventure. Oh dear!

I also learned how to make envelopes out of calendars. I’ve made four delightful little kitty cat envelopes out of my old 2002 calendar (the first one at hand) and am a firm believer in the craft, now.

On this day, I learned that Sister Sara is exactly as much of a Sister as I predicted she was ;D

I also learned that my middle nephew enjoys painting as much as I did at that age, although he’s not so impressed with painting statues. He also likes to run around in storms as much as I did do.

I learned that knitting seems to be a big series of slip stitches, but I haven’t quite got the hang of it yet.

I also learned that Hyperion has two more books after it! I finished Fall of Hyperion this evening and am looking forward to thumbing through Endymion and Rise of Endymion. Might have to give my wrist a break though (the two book Cantos is some pretty heavy reading, if you know what I mean)

On this day, I learned that Andreas Celcius was going to make his scale go from 0°C being the boiling point of water to 100°C being the freezing point, but luckily he recanted.

I also learned that I still remember the C scale on trumpet! It sounded horrible because it’s been months since I played, but I remembered it! And played Jingle Bells, since it was finally in season. Perhaps if I practice tomorrow I can play some other christmas songs.

On this day, I learned that -trix is a feminine suffix from Latin. Some words that use this are executrix, magistrix, and aviatrix. It’s a lot of fun because the x makes it just a little more mysterious. If I give a speech, would I be an oratrix?

I also learned that High Plains Drifter is a pretty epic Eastwood movie.

I learned my nephew Aiden has memorized almost every aspect of the Spider-man 3 movie, as evinced by his telling us about every aspect of the movie while we watched it this afternoon :p He was less well-informed about X-Men 3 though.

I learned how to use a Diva Cup!

On this day, I learned that there is a program called  Fluke that will allow you to play FLAC files in iTunes simply, on OSX!  So my WAVEs are FLAC now :D

I also learned that my aunt and uncle recycle; big props to them ;D

I learned that the name of the Besançon regional cheese I so enjoyed in France is called, simply, Comté. (ooooooooooom nomnom)

On this day, I learned that you can not only take pictures through a kaleidoscope, but they are also beautiful. And you can photoshop them up good to make pretty wallpapers of tiling patterns.

I learned that my mobo tops out at 1.5 Gbps (SATA) which put quite a damper on my hdd upgrade frenzy.

I learned that photoshop brushes are way fun and why didn’t I try using them four years ago, you know, when everyone else started to. Oh well, I’m set in my ways about some things.

On this day, I learned that Cajun Crab soup wasn’t really the tastiest choice for dinner, but after watching Yes Man, I decided it was just a necessary risk to take. I really loved the attitude of the movie; it reminded me that I have been getting a little complacent about living. Gotta keep it spiced up.

I learned that perhaps I should have much better broadband right now.

I also learned that Aperture might be exactly what I need in a picture organizer! Unlike Lightroom, it doesn’t sneer at non-RAW or JPEG files, and unlike Picasa, you can actually USE it on a Mac. I hope we can have a good month together.

On this day, I learned that acrylic paints will absorb rubbing alcohol so that you can remove it from hard surfaces (like ceramics!), so I spent several hours yesterday stripping paint off my wizard’s friend statue, a young lady with flowers in her hair.

I also learned that it’s still hard to see stu off for any period of time, but it wasn’t quite as hard to bury my grandfather’s ashes (the mourning services and stuff were in June, so this was just an enterrement)

I learned that homemade cinnamon raisin bread is pretty good with peanut butter, but it will not stop you from being annoyed at how you can’t download iPhoto online because apple are paranoid corporate dogs! Why did I leave my disks at school ;_;
